The Black Cabin range is our brand new range of highly stylish garden buildings. With all the charm and practicality of a traditional shepherds hut, but a boasting a sleek, contemporary twist, a black cabin is perfect for those with a more modern sense of style.
The ideal way to create holiday accommodation, offices, studios or adding more space to your home, each self-contained cabin maximises space to offer a calm, purposeful space within a small footprint. This, combined with the addition of cast-iron wheels mean that in many cases planning permission is not needed to add a Black Cabin to your garden.
Globally inspired, locally Built
Like all of our huts, each Black Cabin is hand-built by experienced crafstmen here in Suffolk using carefully sourced materials. However, the design inspiration for this range comes from all over the world.
The initial impression is the rustic appearance of a Scotitsh Bothy cabin. But look a little closer and you’ll find the influence of ancient Japanese principles. The charred wooden timber cladding exterior, known as ‘Shou Sugi Ban’ is both a bold and natural material. Perfectly attuning to its surroundings, without the use of paint or chemicals, and yet creating an undeniable statement. This characterful method of wood preservation has been used in Japan for generations, and can be found on the world’s oldest wooden building, Horyuji temple.
The angled roofs and clean wooden panelling inside stem from our love of Scandinavian simplicity, creating a fresh, unfussy aesthetic from the inside out. The cabin’s large framed windows are carefully positioned and shaped to welcome the outside in and make the most of the surrounding views, bringing you closer to nature whilst experiencing hygge in comfort.
Small footprint, huge possibilty
This contemporary cabin, design with clean lines and angles hosts a world of possibilities in one small footprint. With more layout options that a traditional Shepherds hut, you can choose a cosy mezzanine bedroom, twin cabin bunks or an impressive vaulted ceiling complete wit full-height glazing.
We can create functional and stylish modular furniture in any number of configurations to make the best use of the space. Add a perfectly formed kitchen and bathroom and choose between painted, panelled walls or a Scandi-inspired plywood finish. Heat your cabin with a wood burner, electric stove or underfloor heating and enjoy the views through single pane or crittal-style windows and doors. Made on a rolling chassis, like our traditional huts, each black cabin is built to order in our workshop and delivered to site, positioned exactly where you want it.
Prices start from £30k (+VAT) and each cabin is completely bespoke; designed, quoted and built to your exact specifications.
